For divers, the ocean is more than a destination. It is a source of wonder, discovery and connection, and with that connection comes a responsibility to protect it.
Blancpain shares that belief.
Through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment, the Swiss prestige watchmaker and creator of the Fifty Fathoms, the first true diver's watch in 1953, has built has built a longstanding legacy of supporting ocean exploration, scientific discovery and conservation. Today, that commitment is helping PADI and the PADI AWARE Foundation harness the reach of the global diving community to create meaningful protection for the places divers love-and the vulnerable species that depend on them.
As the founding partner of the PADI Blueprint for Ocean Action, Blancpain supports an ambitious shared goal: helping advance the global effort to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.
At the heart of this partnership is Adopt the Blue℠, operated by the PADI AWARE Foundation and created to build the world’s largest network of underwater sites for conservation action. Through the program, PADI Dive Centers, Resorts and Professionals identify the local places they care about most—creating a foundation for monitoring, research, restoration, advocacy and future protection.
Now, the partnership is also helping mobilize divers to protect some of the ocean’s most vulnerable animals. |

As the founding partner of the Global Shark & Ray Census, Blancpain is supporting a new global citizen-science initiative developed by PADI AWARE and scientists from James Cook University. Through the Census, divers record shark and ray sightings—and meaningful non-sightings—through the PADI Conservation Action Portal.
Together, these observations can help researchers build a clearer picture of where sharks and rays are being seen, how their distribution may be changing, and where additional conservation attention may be needed. A memorable encounter underwater can become part of a global dataset designed to inform science and strengthen protection. |

Tomorrow marks the beginning of AWARE Week, when divers and dive communities around the world come together to take action above and below the surface. It is also an opportunity to recognize what becomes possible when a global community is supported by partners prepared to make a lasting commitment.
Because meaningful ocean protection is not achieved in a single week or by a single organization. It is built over time—through science, collaboration, local leadership and the determination to keep showing up.
Together, Blancpain, PADI and PADI AWARE are helping transform the world’s largest diving community into the most powerful force for ocean conservation. |
