Every Shark Sighting Can Help Protect the Ocean

PADI and Blancpain are partnering to help protect vulnerable shark and ray species worldwide.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌    Advancing Ocean Protection Together         PADI and Swiss prestige watchmaker Blancpain are working together to help advance ocean protection through citizen science, exploration, and community-driven conservation action around the world. Today, that partnership expands with the launch of the AWARE Shark & Ray Conservation Specialty Course and the accompanying flagship citizen science initiative, the AWARE Global Shark & Ray Census - two new initiatives designed to mobilize divers worldwide to help protect vulnerable shark and ray species. Sharks and rays play a critical role in maintaining healthy ocean ecosystems. As apex predators, they help keep marine food webs in balance-supporting healthier reefs, more resilient fisheries, and thriving coastal communities around the world. Protecting sharks and rays ultimately helps protect the future health of the ocean itself.     From Dive Log to Global Data       Developed in collaboration with scientists at James Cook University, the AWARE Global Shark & Ray Census enables divers around the world to log shark and ray sightings through the PADI Conservation Action Portal - helping scientists and conservation partners better understand species distribution, population trends, and areas most in need of protection.     A Partnership Helping Scale Ocean Protection         The initiatives build on the broader conservation partnership between PADI and Blancpain through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment Program, including Blancpain’s role as a founding partner of the PADI Blueprint for Ocean Action and Adopt the Blue™ , helping scale diver-led conservation efforts and measurable ocean impact worldwide.
