She had noticed blue whales lingering in Sri Lanka’s warm tropical waters year-round, research that led to her founding Oceanswell, the first marine conservation research and education nonprofit in Sri Lanka. There, she’s spent over a decade trying to protect the blue whales from various threats. The movement she kickstarted has also encouraged more Sri Lankan students than ever before to study marine biology.
