There's no time like the present to save the ocean
There’s no time like the present to save the ocean! AWARE Week starts now.
As the global community of Ocean Torchbearers™, together we’re a powerful force uniquely positioned to save the ocean. This AWARE Week, 14-22 September, we are rallying together to tackle the marine debris crisis – we hope you’ll join us!
With a Global Plastics Treaty currently in development, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to put an end to plastic pollution. PADI AWARE® Foundation is representing the dive community throughout the international policy negotiations, and your action is critical in helping to secure a strong Global Plastics Treaty. Here are just a few ways you can make a difference this week (and all year!):
Join a Dive Against Debris event or other conservation activity near you. Contact your local PADI Dive Center or Resort to see what they have planned.

Heroes Ridding the Ocean of Marine Debris Through Local Action
Since the launch of PADI AWARE Foundation’s Dive Against Debris® program in 2011, more than 90,000 divers have aided over 35,000 entangled marine animals and reported more than 2.4 million pieces of marine debris to inform groundbreaking research and public policy that is helping to create healthier oceans. Meet a few of the incredible Dive Against Debris heroes who are leading local action for global impact.
With an estimated 14 million tons of plastics entering the ocean every year, the necessity of closing the tap on plastic has never been greater. The Global Plastics Treaty currently in development represents a unique and crucial opportunity for a worldwide coordinated initiative to effectively resolve the ongoing plastic pollution crisis at all stages of the life span of plastics. As we come together as a community of divers and Ocean Torchbearers to close the tap on plastics, let’s explore the root of the issue.
As an Ocean Torchbearer, you have the power to be catalyst for change by sharing your insights and passion for ocean conservation with your friends and family. Share your thoughts on the marine debris crisis, the Global Plastics Treaty, and encourage others to sign the petition. Use the hashtag #AWAREWEEK2024 when posting for a chance to be featured in our global conservation content.
