This November, governments from around the world will meet at CITES Cop20 Summit (Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species) to decide on whether to strengthen protection for threatened species. On the agenda: manta rays, whale sharks, and oceanic whitetip sharks.
Despite existing protections, one-third of all shark and ray species face extinction in our lifetime. We cannot wait another decade for action.
The PADI AWARE Foundation is the only organisation representing the dive industry at CITES calling on governments to vote in favour of all shark and ray proposals.

Take Action: Sign the CITES Petition
From 1- 21 November, PADI AWARE is rallying the global dive community to secure the highest level of protection (Appendix I) for manta rays, whale sharks, and oceanic whitetips -prohibiting international commercial trade.
Sign our petition in the three weeks leading up to CITES. Your name can help ensure governments vote “yes.”
For more than 30 years, the PADI AWARE Foundation has led shark and ray conservation efforts, contributing to protective measures for more than 100 species. In partnership with Blancpain, PADI and the PADI AWARE Foundation are launching the Global Shark & Ray Census , the world’s largest diver-led data collection program for sharks and rays. This community-powered initiative empowers divers and non-divers to log sightings and monitor key habitats, generating vital data to protect species and shape ocean policy.
